The master plan for the Northern Center of Kemi is a long-term strategic development plan, made in collaboration with local stakeholders. The thematic ideas of the master plan are applicable to the development of both the built and functional environment of the area into a topical, diverse, and interesting entity. The plans consist of a detailed development roadmap of the whole city center as well as site-specific strategies. In the master plan, the directions, focus points, themes, and actions are described. The master plan is a combination of strategic planning, urban planning, conceptual planning, and service design.
The aim of developing Kemi’s Northern center is to improve the urban environment, increase the number of residents, visitors, service providers, and create new jobs, and develop tourism. The master plan will help the city to live up to its ambition for sustainable, resource-efficient, and resource-efficient Kemi.
The master plan creates an image of Kemi as a Northern city and embraces it as “Kemi’s business card”. The master plan focuses on the surroundings of Täikkö market square, the commercial center of Kemi, as well as the environment of the city entry point, the Railway station area. The unifying features of different sub-regions of the master plan area are the strong presence of urban art and enabling interesting built-environment for all age groups.
